Chicken restaurant franchise KFC has launched its first franchise in Kenya.

This is the first of the global USA-based fast-food chains to open in East Africa. Many within the country are hoping that other major fast food franchises, such as McDonald’s, Burger King and Pizza Hut, will follow suit and start opening locations in Kenya.

The major obstacle to opening the KFC restaurant in Kenya was ensuring the supply chain met the quality control standards that KFC’s parent company Yum Brands Inc demanded. Now that the supply chain has been established to a high standard it is believed that this will make it easier for other fast food chains to expand into the country.
