Brand Manager for Merry Maids, Barbara Roberts recently donned her running shoes to raise money for children with disabilities.
Roberts, who has also owned Merry Maids Stafford with her husband Ian for 15 years, travels all over the UK in her role as Brand Manager, providing support to the domestic cleaning franchise’s network.
It was after attending a fundraising event with friends for The Pilgrimage Trust to send children with disabilities or ?social and emotional needs to Lourdes, that Roberts decided to help raise funds for the holiday initiative, which costs £700 per child, by competing in the local ?half-marathon.
Roberts said: “My friends raised £500 and I thought I would do something to raise the rest. I managed to ?raise £292 and ran a time of two hours eight minutes – not bad for a 52 year old.”
Roberts raised the money through the sponsorship of her colleagues, friends, fellow franchise owners and her own Merry Maids business.
“I’ve always been a busy person; I love my job ?and business and at times wonder how much more I can ?fit in,” added Roberts.
“I believe there has to be a lifestyle balance. Running helps me to stay fitter, frees my mind ?and gives me more energy. I was proud to use my running to raise money for this cause and didn’t hesitate to find ?the time.”
