Actor Neil Roberts will become the first male Razzamataz Theatre Schools Principal when he opens his Razzamataz franchise in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire.
Roberts will own and operate his Razzamataz school with his actress wife Lisa Hollander, which will involve the couple heading up a team of dedicated teachers to instruct children in dance, drama and singing.
As a professional actor Roberts has appeared in numerous high profile UK and US television programmes and films including a recurring role as Rex Buckland in Aaron Spelling’s Charmed; as Tori Spelling’s love interest in Beverly Hills 90210; as David Hasselhoff’s sidekick in the film Nick Fury; and as cardiothoracic specialist Philip Lawlor in Holby City.
Neil Roberts said: “To be honest I’m quite surprised to find out that I am the first male Razzamataz franchise owner because this is a really sound business venture. Razzamataz is extremely flexible so I can be a Principal without compromising my work as a professional actor.”
Roberts and Hollander first heard about Razzamataz while watching BBC’s Dragon’s Den in 2007 when founder and Managing Director Denise Hutton-Gosney appeared on the show. “Duncan Bannatyne’s backing gave it a lot of credibility,” said Roberts. “We liked the fact that the classes were exciting and the topics that are covered very current, exactly what kids want. The cost to parents for the classes for their children during these difficult times is also a plus, it’s more cost effective for the pupils than many schools.”
Razzamataz is also very committed to working with professional performers and in the past has worked with an array of people from Kylie Minogue’s choreographer to a Lady Gaga tribute act and hip hop crew Zoo Nation. Roberts added: “As a professional actor myself I’m really excited about using my contacts to make Razzamataz Rickmansworth a really great place for children to learn and have fun. I will definitely be calling on colleagues in the industry to show my pupils what they can achieve through hard work and dedication.”
Razzamataz Theatre Schools in one of the fastest growing part-time theatre schools in the UK and it currently has over 40 franchises operating across the country.
To become a Razzamataz franchise owner it is not necessary to have a performing arts background or to have run a part-time theatre school previously, although an interest in the arts is a must. According to Razzanataz Theatre Schools, franchise owners are provided with a week of comprehensive training that includes how to find the most dynamic teachers, first aid training, health and safety issues, child protection, PR and marketing, performing arts material as well as customer service.
