Despite the recession Recognition Express' Alton-based franchisees have secured a new customer to their print and design business. Marshall Transport had never ventured into promotional items until the company received a mailshot from Elspeth and Adrian Simpson, who run the Recognition Express Alton franchise.

Marshall requested a catalogue and placed an order for 250 mugs and 250 coasters bearing the green logo and website address of the company. The products will go out to new and existing customers.

Mark Pelling, from Marshall Transport in Selborne, says: 'Times are hard, and we need to find a new way of knocking on doors. We decided this was a new avenue for potentially increasing business.'

Recognition Express franchisees specialise in corporate recognition products such as badges, signs, business gifts, plaques, awards and promotional products. Elspeth and Adrian have been running their franchise since 2006 and they produced the mugs and coasters for Marshall within three weeks of getting the order.

Adrian says: 'It goes to show it isn't all gloom and doom out there. While we're in a recession, it's vital to get your promotions in order so that potential customers know how to find you. After the recession, yours will be the name they remember.'
