When The Tanning Shop was first founded in Dublin in 1990, the family run business aimed to embrace innovation and professionalism. The company sourced new tanning technology from around the world, which enabled it to offer customers a far higher level of service than conventional UK tanning salons. In fact, The Tanning Shop introduced the first dedicated vertical tanning unit in Europe.
Adam Mooney, founder of The Tanning Shop, strategy was to gain acceptance on the high street in a market that was previously perceived as ‘unprofessional’. Staff were trained to become expert tanning providers, and salons were located in town and city centres.
Since the demand for tanning has increased The Tanning Shop has grown through franchising to become a dominant operator in the UK tanning sector.
