A Dedication To Growth

Running a business that would provide the highest quality of care was always the aim for business partners Chris Scriven and Joanne McMahon. So when they opened their first Bluebird Care office in Weymouth and West Dorset, little did they know that in two years they would achieve £1 million in turnover. The Franchise Magazine reports

One million pounds is an unimaginable prospect for most, however Joanne and Chris have reached this target through hard work and by picking the right franchise.

Key criteria for the duo, when looking at a franchise, was investing in a business that would provide them the opportunity to give something back to the community, while running a profitable business. After much research, it was the Bluebird Care opportunity that really excited them. They explain: “We really liked the company ethos of providing the standard of care we would expect for our own family members or loved ones, as well as the fact that Bluebird Care are full members of the bfa. Bluebird Care also has a proven track record of developing profitable franchises.” These were the main reasons behind their decision to invest.

Being new to the sector was not an issue. Through the comprehensive training and continuous support provided by Bluebird Care, Joanne and Chris were able to get off to a flying start. They add: “We received a full induction and orientation training package to ensure we were familiar with business management as well as the Bluebird Care ethos and relevant policies and procedures. The training included how to represent the brand to ensure consistency at a national level.”

“The training was excellent and thoroughly equipped us for the demands of running a growing care at home business.”

Bluebird Care carers provide the highest level of home care to customers who are truly reliant on their services – customer focus is therefore top of the Bluebird Care manifesto. In order to keep standards high, the support provided by the franchisor is continual and expertly informed. “We receive regular updates from Head Office, through weekly newsletters, as well as regular regional meetings and an annual conference, which is a day packed full of very relevant information and guest speakers,” commented Chris and Joanne. “We receive one-to-one support and guidance from our Business Development Manager and there is a head office team that are just a phone call or email away.”

The pair are enjoying growing their successful business.

“The opportunity to make a difference to our customers, in terms of both the care we provide as a service and the employment opportunities that we bring to the local area, while still operating a sound profitable business, is what we enjoy the most.”

To add to their success, they have also recently reached the national finals of the ‘Care Innovators’ Award at the Great British Care Awards.

Thanks to the success of their first location, Joanne and Chris have expanded and now have three offices located across two territories. There are also plans in the pipeline to expand further with the aim of delivering 20,000 quality care visits per month.

As their Bluebird Care business continues to grow, Joanne and Chris are dedicated to continuing to provide the highest value of care. They have nothing but praise for Bluebird Care and intimate that in order to be successful, an ideal Bluebird Care franchise owner has to have a certain profile: “Those with drive, passion, business management and a determination to succeed would do very well in this business,” they conclude.
