Here The Franchise Magazine talks to one franchise owner, David Newbold, about his experience of running his own branch of the award winning smart repair franchise, Revive!, in the Colchester area, offering a loyal client base mobile bodywork repair solutions.

David Newbold invested in his large territory with Revive! after being made redundant from his position in 2008 as a designer for Siemens Healthcare, which he had held for 20 years. David dabbled in consultancy work for the next two years but struggled to obtain the necessary work to suit his ambitions during a difficult time economically, and so sought out a new challenge.

One morning when David was reading The Daily Mail he stumbled across an article about franchising, which was of particular interest. He had considered the idea previously, but the article answered a lot of questions he had about the industry.

He decided to go for the tried and tested option rather than the more risky alternative of setting up on his own company. David believed that franchising would provide the best of both worlds: he could be his own boss and benefit from the training and support of the franchisor at the same time.David always had a keen interest in cars and during his franchise research, he discovered that SMART repair looked like a sound business concept to get involved in – this was David’s opportunity to turn his hobby into a career. After contacting dozens of franchises in this field of work, to David, Revive! stood head and shoulders above the rest. It offered everything he was after, including support from the franchisor. He travels around meeting new customers and no two days are ever the same. Although the hours are long, during our conversation, he reiterates his firmly held belief that Revive! is an easy-going way to earn a good living. Being his own boss gives him the flexibility he needs to spend time with his wife Debbie and his teenage daughters, which, for David, is the richest reward imaginable.
