Aged just 23, car fanatic Ross McKenzie became the youngest member of a leading UK minor automotive paintwork repair network, having ‘stumbled’ across the ChipsAway franchise opportunity when seeking someone to repair his pride and joy five years ago.
Ross had always taken a keen interest in all things automotive and although not actively seeking a new career direction, he was intrigued by the ChipsAway offering. Having attended an Open Day, he was totally convinced!
When offered a very reasonable voluntary redundancy package, he took advantage to help fund the franchise investment cost.
Ross comments: “I’ve always loved cars and I’m quite a practical person, so I think that helped. The ChipsAway trainers are fantastic – great teachers and also really supportive.
“My Business Mentor, who was with me for my promotions, as well as at the end of the phone should I need some advice or guidance, was also brilliant. During my first launch weekend we managed to estimate around £5,000 worth of work and book in approximately £3,500 – which kept me nice and busy for the first six weeks or so!”
Ross has gone on to substantially develop his ChipsAway business. Just last year, he decided the time was right to invest in another van and employee to service his large territory, and is now in the process of opening a ChipsAway CarCare Centre (fixed-base workshop), which will allow him to process even more vehicles.
