After many years of working in demanding and time consuming roles, Ian Basford (pictured top) decided to pursue a career that would allow him to reap the rewards of his hard work.
“I lost my job as Commercial Director in 2006 when the company I worked for went bankrupt,” explains Ian. “It was at this point that I decided to take control of my future and start a business that was going to work for me. In the past I worked long hours for other people so the thought of directly seeing the rewards of my efforts was very appealing.”
An Accountant by trade, Ian took on a part-time job as Finance Manager at a local school while he searched for his perfect business opportunity.
“I knew that I wanted to go into commercial cleaning,” says Ian, “as it’s a solid, reliable concept – schools, factories and businesses will always need cleaning.
“I had no previous experience in the cleaning industry or running my own business, so I looked on the internet for well-established commercial cleaning franchises. It didn’t take me long to discover the benefits that Dublcheck had to offer.”
Dublcheck promises to obtain all the business for its franchise owners, so they know exactly what turnover* they will receive. Franchise owners can start with the minimum turnover of £14,000 per annum should they wish to run their business hands-on and start small, while retaining the security of their current positions. Alternatively they can invest up to £500,000 per annum if they want to run a management business.
“The Dublcheck franchise package has everything I was looking for,” says Ian. “The dedicated ongoing support of an experienced franchisor, a proven business model, guaranteed turnover and, a big bonus for me, no cold call selling. I’m not a sales person so I found it a huge benefit that Dublcheck can obtain contracts for me.”
Whatever your background, investing in a Dublcheck franchise can make you a success. Dublcheck has seen an increase in turnover in excess of 10 per cent in this so-called doom and gloom climate. Why? Because everywhere you look, buildings still need cleaning. The Dublcheck system puts its new franchise owners on the road to success by actually getting the business for them.
After meeting with the company Directors and franchise team, Ian and his wife Alison quickly agreed that Dublcheck was the business he had been looking for.
Before launching his franchise, Ian attended a one-week training course at the Dublcheck head office, where he was guided through the operations and procedures of the business.
“The training course covered a broad range of topics but it was the legal training that I have found most helpful,” says Ian. “With cleaning standards and health and safety legislation changing so often, the ongoing updates from the Dublcheck team have been a great help.”
With the assistance of the Dublcheck sales team, Ian reached his guaranteed turnover target by the end of his first year and was keen to continue the expansion of his company while keeping high quality service standards.
“I was very impressed with the Dublcheck sales team,” recalls Ian. “I had so many contracts coming in that it got to the point where I had to consider which customers I could take on. I am more interested in keeping my customers happy and providing an excellent service than getting a certain number of contracts on my books.”
Due to the success of his first Dublcheck franchise, Ian went on to expand his business by investing in the Sheffield territory at the start of this year.
“I’m following the tried and tested Dublcheck business model, but I decide how quickly I want to grow my business – I’m in control.
“I now have 17 cleaners working with me and with my new territory in place I should be achieving £150,000 turnover this time next year,” continues Ian. “I could earn more money if I wanted to, although being my own boss means more than that, it’s about finding the right work/life balance, which I have achieved with Dublcheck.”
