WOW... £340,000 in the first year
That’s the word from one of All Trades Network’s newest franchise owners, Michael Foster, after his first year’s trading results came in. All Trades Franchise Manager Eddie Mulqueen speaks to Michael about his successful 12 months of trading.
What was your previous occupation and why did you leave?
I previously worked for a National Building Remediation Company, as a Special Projects Manager, however, I always felt that I could achieve more by working for myself. It was a difficult decision as, although I was very happy in my role, it was limited in its ability to meet my personal ambitions and goals as I always had this urge to run my own business.
Why did you decide to look into franchising?
I liked the idea of a operating a business with an already proven business model, particularly in challenging economic times. I hoped this would provide me with the best start possible, an experienced mentoring team coupled with the opportunity of instant revenue stream and income.
What was your criteria for a franchise?
I wanted to work with a business that has a proven track record within its field and can provide a history of continuous growth and development – All Trades could.
Where did you find out about All Trades?
I researched lots of franchise opportunities on the internet and approached several for further information.
What appealed to you most about All Trades?
Its success to date and its commitment to funding growth and expansion. I met with All Trades’ Managing Director, Keith Roberts, and I liked his approach to business and his honesty.
What training did you receive?
I attended a five-day residential training course at the All Trades head office in Blackburn.
How would you rate it?
The training was very comprehensive, and professionally delivered.
Since becoming a franchise owner, is it how you expected it to be?
All Trades has provided me with even more work than I had initially expected. This has meant I have been able to grow my business more quickly than I had planned. It has been very hard work and I have had to do a lot more than 9-5, but it has been worth it and I am enjoying the challenge.
What type of support have you received?
All Trades is available to offer technical and operational advice and support as and when I have needed their help.
What aspect of it have you found most beneficial?
Access to industry specific technical support always available, all I needed to do was ask the questions.
What is your current turnover – are you on target to meet your business plan?
Quite simply yes on both counts. My first year’s turnover was £340,000, which was well above my initial target.
What do you enjoy most about your business? – How has it improved your lifestyle?
I enjoy the constant challenges it presents me. I have been able to attain a good salary during my first year in business, which is rare in a new business.
Finally, what are your future plans for the business?
To build on my first year’s success and secure regular additional work from both commercial and private clients.
