How have you found the support provided to you by the Caremark support team?

As I have a Regional Support Manager I can contact at any time, having this immediate line of communication has added invaluable information and support to my business.

What would you say were the main components of your success?

You make your own success by sheer hard work and being in total control of everything that happens within your business. Also by sticking to the Caremark system I have been able to implement key office and management staff at the correct time. The hard part is then letting go slightly and leaving the managers and office staff to do their job.

How do you intend to pursue excellence in your own business?

I audit my business at regular intervals. We never know when we may be inspected by Caremark Ltd, the CQC or the Contract Manager from our local Social Services. I also speak to our customers and their relatives on a regular basis, which will identify any problems with our service immediately. We can then identify and act upon any problems without delay. Providing an excellent service to our customers is very important to us as is maintaining our high standards and excellent reputation within our area.

Do you feel you have been able to satisfy all of the objectives you hoped to achieve when you joined Caremark?

Yes. When I started my business I did a very realistic and slightly ambitious business plan. Twelve months later we are pretty much where we should be, which I am delighted with.

What kind of person do you think it takes to operate a Caremark franchise?

Someone who is very hardworking and dedicated to giving 100 per cent to their business. Having experience in running their own business would also be beneficial, plus having a good sense of humour and a very supportive family helps.

What do you feel is the most rewarding aspect of your Caremark business?

Gaining the trust from our customers who may not have been receiving a high standard of care before. When you get compliments from the customers and their family as to the high standard of care they are receiving, it is very rewarding and a credit to the Care Workers who support that customer. We also care for a lot of customers who are at the end of their lives and to be able to support the customer and their family at such a distressing time is very satisfying.

I mustn’t forget to mention that seeing your business grow at a steady rate is extremely satisfying. At the end of every week before we leave the office, we write in huge letters on the white board how many hours of care we are providing. This has increased at a steady rate throughout our first 12 months and is very motivational.
