David Reid Homes: The franchise opportunity that has never had a business failure
If you are looking for a very different kind of franchise opportunity, with a proven track record of success, it's well worth looking at David Reid Homes
David Reid Homes has never had a business failure among its 50 plus existing franchisees in New Zealand and Australia. Now, the business renowned for high quality standards is set to change the face of the building industry in the UK by introducing a radical way to own a unique new home.
The revolutionary bespoke approach is providing the UK housing market with a fresh look at self-building. The company is set to offer a high quality alternative to the formulaic homes built by developers across the UK and Europe who offer little variety to suit customers' individual lifestyles.
'Our service is set to turn the new homes industry in the UK on its head,' says company founder David Reid. 'Given a choice, people don't want to have an identical home to every other home in the neighbourhood. Our service offers discerning clients a chance to have the home of their dreams designed and built to suit their own individual tastes, lifestyle and budget.'
The company has won more awards than any other home builder in New Zealand in the past 10 years and prides itself in offering an exceptionally high quality service to customers. With this in mind, the company is looking for franchisees who are seasoned business people, who will be carefully vetted before being accepted for a franchise.
'We know a franchise system is an excellent way of maintaining high standards because every franchisee will be running their own business,' explains Martin Pick, a Milton Keynes businessman who is heading the David Reid Homes launch in the UK. 'All franchisees will be trained to our high standards and must be in tune with our philosophy which is about being passionate about providing a premium service.'
The company is aiming to set up around 50 franchises in the UK and individuals interested in getting involved would need around £150,000 to set up - this figure includes an allowance of £50,000 for working capital.
How the David Reid Homes concept is perfect for busy people who want a brand new individual home - without the stress!
Many people dream of living in a brand new home which has been designed and created just for them, but are deterred because they are simply too busy to oversee the project. One couple who have recently built a fantastic new home are perfect examples of how the David Reid Homes concept works.
Shane and Helen Russell are both working in Dubai within the aviation industry, but were looking to build their perfect home on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia. The couple had searched the area looking for a suitable plot, but without success. They also realised that it would be incredibly difficult to oversee a home build project from another country and needed to find a quality project management service. They contacted David Reid Homes and explained their dilemma. They were told about the Baja Project which was being built at Pelican Waters, Queensland and were put in contact with the area's franchisees.
Shane and Helen were able to invest in the Baja and then lease it back to the franchisees, who would use it as their show-home for two years. As the couple were planning to remain in Dubai for some time, the scheme appeared to be the logical solution to their problem. Helen says:
'It was perfect. The house was on the water, North facing (which is important if you are in the Southern hemisphere) and because we wanted a home that we could eventually enjoy as a base for friends and family, the location was ideal. With the leaseback agreement we didn't have to worry about finding tenants.'
Obviously the couple were working on a strict timescale and soon needed to return to Dubai. They were relieved to be able to hand over the whole project management to the franchisees, who looked after every last detail. Helen reveals: 'To overcome the problems with design and decoration we were sent colour swatches and brochures by e-mail so that we could make the final decisions on what went where.'
Shane adds: 'Communicating by e-mail can be very difficult sometimes - it's easy to misinterpret things. But David Reid Homes were so straightforward, and very clear in the way they communicated. We received a progress report weekly, progress photos once a month, and an immediate response from them if we had any questions. Particularly when you're doing something like this long distance, trust is a huge factor. It was a real comfort to be dealing with people that we had absolute trust in.'
The couple were delighted with their new home and said it was even better than they had imagined. It was the David Reid Homes reputation for quality that had initially appealed to Helen and Shane, who reflect: 'It's hard to appreciate just how significant David Reid's impact has been in New Zealand - people actually advertise their homes for sale by emphasising the fact that it's a David Reid Home.'
Strengthening the team
The David Reid Homes UK team has been strengthened by the appointment of two new senior directors. Alan Garnier, who is the Territory Director for the new UK North Division of David Reid Homes, is hoping to recruit 25 franchisees to provide a service across the north of England and Scotland.
Alan, who is based at new offices in Auchterarder next to the world famous Gleneagles hotel and golfing resort, has been appointed to spearhead the expansion of the northern division because of his track record as a successful businessman in the oil construction industry and also as a property developer.
'This is a golden opportunity for the right people to build a successful and profitable business,' he reflects. 'There is no other build and design service like it in the UK.'
Meanwhile, in the south of England, David Marsden has become the southern Territory Director, bringing with him a wealth of brand building experience. David previously worked as European Marketing Director with a global manufacturer for 14 years and had a similar role with a TV production company. However, at the age of 40, David has decided to combine his passion for property with launching a new career.
Operating from offices in Berkshire and Devon, David is now busy recruiting new franchisees throughout southern England and Wales. He says:
'Anyone considering taking on a franchise should look at the David Reid Homes opportunity very seriously. It's not necessary to have a building background, just sound commercial skills, an interest in property and a strong desire to be successful.'
