Dyno: A pedigree franchise

An extensive track record, the backing of a leading service organisation, and the potential to build and manage a team under a household name await ambitious and enterprising people. Rachel Spaul reports

There are not many franchisors that can claim to be a 'household name', or boast over 40 years of experience and the backing and resources of a major service organisation - British Gas. Established in 1963 and a founding member of the British Franchise Association, Dyno-Rod has grown into a complementary fleet of 24-hour property care services under the Dyno Group brand.

Fair prices, fast performance and professionalism are the core principles driving the two divisions of Dyno Group. These are: Dyno-Rod drain services, Dyno-Rod Plumbing and Dyno-Secure (a locksmith and security installation/service).

Dyno-Rod Plumbing is a multi-van business providing a professional 24-hour emergency plumbing repair and installation service to domestic and commercial customers including: burst and leaking pipe work; washing machine and dishwasher installations; and repair of ball valves, water tanks and cisterns.

Dyno-Secure is a fully resourced mobile security repair and installation service. Franchisees provide a fully inclusive security service for homes and business premises including emergency locksmithing, security surveys, burglar alarm installation, video entry systems and all access control systems. Experience as a plumber or locksmith is not needed for either opportunity as Dyno Group provides training and plentiful ongoing support. This includes: telephone support, business development programmes, online and hands-on support from an Area Manager, ongoing marketing support, national advertising, PR and sales support material, and out of hours call handling. Key Accounts Sales and Quality Assurance accreditation is part of the package.

Previously a Regional Support Manager for a construction equipment dealership, Ken Lewin says: 'I chose plumbing because I have a natural aptitude for physical work with a practical and managerial background. I chose Dyno-Rod Plumbing because it is already a household name.'

Ken's Basingstoke-based business got off to a great start in February 2005 and has a healthy portfolio of customers and a net monthly turnover of £20,000. Chris Bingham, who previously owned a recruitment agency, also reports a good start for his London-based Dyno-Secure business with £10,000 per month, by month two. He states: 'Dyno Group has years of experience, which is now being backed by a modern outlook on business.' Franchise opportunities exist throughout the UK for Dyno-Rod Plumbing and Dyno-Secure, Dyno-Rod drain services (drain cleaning, inspection and refurbishment of drain, sewer and pipe work systems) is an established brand offering limited re-sale opportunities.

'As a Dyno Group franchisee you will need to have a broad range of commercial skills,' states Operational Development Manager Clive Smith. 'Managing a Dyno franchise requires the application of expertise in disciplines such as leadership, staff motivation, financial control, administration, marketing and communication.'

Dyno Group seeks determined, ambitious and enterprising people who will effectively exploit the potential that the Dyno brand and franchise format offers. Clive concludes: 'Our association with British Gas brings a whole new world of exciting opportunities that we are well placed to capitalise on.'
