In his fifth year as a Granite Transformations franchise owner, Adrian Shuck has opened a second showroom and is working towards a six figure turnover
With three record-breaking months under his belt equating to £210,000 worth of sales, Granite Transformations franchise owner Adrian Shuck is ahead of target for this year and is now focusing on achieving his long-term goal of a £1.5 million annual turnover by 2012.
"The recession has definitely helped to boost sales because with credit less freely available, more homeowners have opted to renovate their properties than move home," enthuses Adrian. "Franchises like Granite Transformations have been able to capitalise on the demand for affordable home improvements."
Established in the UK in 2003, Granite Transformations specialises in creating and fitting kitchen worktops made out of granite, glass, quartz or mosaic surfaces. A customer's worn out kitchen can be given a new lease of life with minimal mess and disturbance because the new work top fits on top of the existing work surface and the job can be completed in just one day. Other products available include splash backs, vanities, shower recesses, floors, walls and more.
"I launched my Brighton-based franchise five years ago and, as trading conditions were so good and the rent was cheap, in July this year I launched a second showroom in Epsom," Adrian continues. "Before I became a franchise owner I worked in the IT industry as a Sales Manager. I had always liked the idea of becoming my own boss and building my own business, but had never taken it any further until a former work colleague introduced me to the Granite Transformations concept. Impressed with the product and the profit margins I decided to invest."
All franchise owners have access to a comprehensive franchise package, which includes initial training, on the job training and ongoing support. Granite Transformations Chief Operating Officer Danny Hanlon comments: "We have developed a very comprehensive initial three-week training programme which covers every aspect of running the business. It is designed to fast track our franchise owners through all the technical, sales, financial and standard operating procedures."
Following feedback from the existing franchise network, Granite Transformations has focused on improving its ongoing support package this year by developing FAST - a Franchise Advisory and Support Team. Danny adds: "There are three key areas to focus on when operating a Granite Transformations franchise: sales, operations and technical. With this in mind, we created FAST with three members of personnel who are experts in their respective fields. All of them are only a phone call away and are able to visit our franchise owners in their territories if required.
"We have also reduced the initial set up costs, by investing in a centralised manufacturing location. This saves our franchise owners both time and money, as they no longer require their own factory premises and therefore have more time to focus on finding new business instead of fabricating and cutting the worktops."
Adrian really enjoys operating his Granite Transformations franchise and is happy to work five or six days a week while he is building up the business in both territories if it means he can hit the £1.5 million mark within three years, and be in a position to provide a very comfortable lifestyle for his family. "As my own boss I work harder than I did as an employee because I know I will be rewarded," explains Adrian. "For the first time I have job satisfaction as I continue to receive letters from happy customers."
