"The flexibility is brilliant"

Franchise owner Tracy Martin explains how running her Well Polished business has improved her quality of life

By operating her Well Polished franchise, mother of two Tracy Martin is finally able to put her children and family first without feeling guilty. "I love being my own boss," says Tracy.

"The flexibility is brilliant - I now work the hours I want from home, so I can take my children to school in the morning and work around any other family commitments."

Before she joined Well Polished, Tracy was a fundraiser for a charity. Fed up with the internal politics Tracy began to reconsider her future career and decided becoming self-employed might hold the answer.

"I did not have the confidence to start up a business from scratch," explains Tracy. "So I decided to talk to my boyfriend's friend, Nick Gregory who owns a Well Polished franchise, to get an indication of what running a franchise would be like. Nick was very complimentary about the Well Polished franchise, which prompted me to contact the company founder, Sandra Venables to discuss the franchise opportunity in more detail."

Impressed with Sandra's professionalism and honesty, Tracy decided to invest. "I knew Well Polished was the right investment for me," continues Tracy. "I liked the different aspects of running the franchise, from meeting clients in their homes, to managing the cleaning contracts and sorting out my own accounts. The fact I could work from home was also appealing."

Established in 2004, Well Polished is a management domestic cleaning introductions agency franchise and has territories available nationwide at £5,900. The role of the franchise owners is to manage the cleaning contracts, find cleaners and liaise with the clients - no cleaning is involved. Well Polished offers a variety of services from standard house cleans, bed making and laundry to one-off blitz cleans and since 2009, franchise owners have been able to provide an in-house, same day ironing service called Well Pressed.

All Well Polished franchise owners benefit from comprehensive initial training and ongoing support as Tracy explains: "Before I launched my franchise, I attended a thorough four-day training course at head office. This covered everything from how to close a sale, estimate a cleaning time to doing our own accounts. I also received my own copy of the operations manual to refer to. This was very useful, as it gave me the tools and the confidence required to run the business.

"Since then, I have received ongoing support from Well Polished. I have weekly contact with Sandra to talk through the business and any issues I have, so I never feel alone. Knowing I am able to grow the business at my own pace, with support there if required is great."

Tracy launched her West Yorkshire based franchise in January and is already ahead of target with five cleaners and 10 clients on the books. By the end of her first year, Tracy hopes to be turning over £2,000 per month profit. "I really recommend this franchise," beams Tracy. "My quality of life and happiness have improved dramatically!"
