Before the tournament kicks off, Daniel will appear in an advertising campaign for the brand, alongside his childhood idol Pele. The advert will see Pele give the young England player some footballing advice, before showing how this has helped Sturridge become the footballer he is today. On TV screens from May 28th the advert is an extension of the My Sub, My Way platform and will look to hero the Low Fat Chicken Teriyaki – Daniels personal favourite.

Sturridge said: “I am excited to become the latest SUBWAY Famous Fan, joining other great names who are at the top of their respective sporting fields, as well as my childhood idol Pele. As a footballer making sure I look after myself is important and I am proud to be partnering with the SUBWAY® brand to inspire the next generation to get more active in their everyday lives.”

Manaaz Akhtar, Regional Marketing Director for the SUBWAY brand in Europe, commented: “We are thrilled to be working with an inspirational and talented sportsman like Daniel who is a true fan of the SUBWAY brand. Providing everyone with healthier, great value options is important to us and that is why we have invested heavily in the development of our low fat range to help everyone eat well and support active lifestyles, no matter what their goals.”

The announcement follows recent news that the SUBWAY brand has signed a multi-year commitment with Liverpool Football Club to become its Official Training Food partner.
