McDonald’s is set to carry out a make over of its stores across the USA. The global fast food chain, which has one of the largest franchise networks in the world, is looking to revamp its current image; changing its bright and bold colours and harsh lighting with a more subtle, modern and cosy look.

The company is said to be spending about US$1 billion on the revamp, which has been designed with the aim of making customers want to stay and socialise in the restaurants after eating. Although McDonald’s iconic red and yellow will be kept, the company is planning to use more muted tones, as well as replacing cartoon characters on the walls with contemporary artwork and photography, and installing more wood and faux leather chairs and tables.
