USA-based fast food franchise giant McDonalds is set to strengthen its position in New Zealand with the opening of new outlets. The company is planning on adding seven more outlets to the 143 locations it already has operating in New Zealand.

Mark Hawthorne, Managing Director of McDonald's New Zealand, said: 'It's one of our most aggressive years in expansion we've had in a while. We will probably open more freestanding restaurants this year than we have in the last eight years combined.'

Furthermore the fast food burger chain has reported its same store growth in New Zealand was up by seven per cent in the March quarter. Additionally, McDonald's global same store growth was 4.3 per cent, with gains in all major markets except China and Germany.
